So, flew back to Nahant and arrived to the welcome of the dogs... Gene was still in South Africa, and Chris and Gina were arriving on Wednesday.
At least the Christmas lights were already up and we had a fresh (still alive) Christmas tree (if undecorated). In 2022 we decided we will not have live trees anymore, so I built an awesome tree with some wood and a bit of wire, maar nou ja.
The big pre-xmas freeze swept through Texas and the plains - Austin went from 61F to 11F in 12 hours, and Nahant was left with a super high tide. The Whale froze and there were some issues, but the local guys where I was storing it stepped up and damage was limited...

Christmas day lunch was Chicken and sliced Ham - enough leftovers to last until 2023 and Stanley and Milo were very happy.
Jack arrived for a short visit, and Gina and Jack left for a day of skiing somewhere up north. At least they did not break anything.
We did introduce Jack to Amarula - see left side of the pic |
Thursday we met Martha, Rob and Sharon in the Seaport area of Boston. Went pub-crawling. Crawled home in an Uber.
Really bad karaoke at Sissy K's. Everything was a very blurred by then.. |
On old years eve, we met Bob and Tess at the Capital Grill in town for our regular indulgent last lunch of the year - crawled home once again.
Old years lunch with the Bois's |
Gina flew back back to CDMX on old years day - nothing like being in Mexico City to see in 2023.
Asleep on New Years eve at 8pm.
Met up with the Giuliana's at Dryft in Lynn on the first day of 2023. Always good to see them.
Was supposed to fly back to Austin on the 5th, but on the 3rd had a glitch in the matrix, and decided to stay another week. Managed to get an MRI scheduled for Sunday - did not show any issues, so started organizing to get back to the Left Whale by Wednesday 1/11.
PS: Chucked out our old stove (which doubled as the mouse motel for a number of years).... new stove, new washing machine, new year, no $$$.
